The Case for Christ records Lee Strobel's attempt to "determine if there's credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God." The book consists primarily of interviews between Strobel (a former legal editor at the Chicago Tribune) and biblical scholars such as Bruce Metzger. Each interview is based on a simple question concerning historical evidence scientific evidence, and "psychiatric evidence." Together, these interviews compose a case brief defending Jesus' divinity, and urging readers to reach a verdict of their own.
In his book, Don't Waste Your Life, John Piper points out that God created us to live with a single passion: to joyfully display his supreme excellence in all spheres of life. He states that the wasted life is the life without this passion. God calls us to pray and think and dream and plan and work, not to be made much of, but to make much of him in every part of our lives.

What does Jesus mean when he says, "Follow Me?"
In The Gospel According to Jesus, MacArthur tackles the idea of "easy believism", challenging Christians to re-evaluate their commitment to Christ by examining their fruits. MacArthur asks, "What does it really mean to be saved?" He urges readers to understand that their conversion was more than a mere point in time, that, by definition, it includes a lifetime of obediently walking with Jesus as Lord.

The current trend is to assert all religions are interchangeable. This book puts the idea to rest with extensive scholarship and clear-thinking. In an engaging, conversational style, Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart take you through every book of the Bible using their unique, progressive approach:
How to Read the Bible Book by Book can be used as a companion to How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth. It also stands on its own as a reliable guide to reading and understanding the Bible for yourself.
How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth exactly what its title implies, a how-to book that teaches the reader to read the Bible with God's meaning in view. Stuart and Fee teach the reader how to read and interpret every major section of Scripture such as the Pentateuch, the Prophets, the Wisdom Literature, the Gospels, the Epistles, and the Revelation. The approach focuses first on exegesis and then on hermeneutics. Exegesis has to do with the "then and there," of the Bible's content. Hermeneutics, as Stuart and Fee use the term, has to do with the "here and now," of the Bible's message. Stuart and Fee explain their dual approach at the outset: ...we have two tasks: First, our task is to find out what the text originally meant to the author and original readers; this is called exegesis. Second, we must learn to hear that same meaning in the variety of new or different context of our own day..."
This book has a companion volume: How to Read the Bible Book by Book which guides you through the contexts of each book of the Bible. You need both books!

Understanding the New Testament is a daunting but exciting task. Our world is so different from that of the first century. The dress, travel, vocation, and custom of biblical characters are all foreign to us. Yet it is important to understand the context and content of the New Testament if we are to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
This book is much like How to Read the Bible Book by Book, but with maps, photos, and a simpler format. One of my new favorites! Be sure you get both the NT and OT volumes. They are worth it. -- Randy
The world of the Old Testament can seem hard to understand, especially for people living in times and places so far removed from the ancient Middle East. It's not just that we wear different clothes and hold different jobs--people in the West just don't have the same history, the same culture, or the same way of thinking as Old Testament characters like Abraham and David. And this disconnect can make studying the Old Testament an arduous and confusing process. A Popular Survey of the Old Testament is designed to help ordinary people enrich their understanding of Old Testament people and events.
Well-illustrated with color photos, charts, and maps, and written in an easy, informal style, this survey discusses the themes of the various groups of Old Testament books.
