T4G--The Underestimated Gospel

April 12, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

Mark Faulkner, Lee Tindal and I are attending the Together for the Gospel conference in Louisville this week. We are being deeply edified by these amazing speakers.

Yesterday, sermons on the sufficiency and centrality of the Gospel by Kevin DeYoung, Thabiti Anyabwile and Birmingham's own David Platt were deeply edifying as were messages by C.J. Mahaney, Albert Mohler and Mark Dever on Tuesday night.

Good Friday and Easter: The story that defines all other stories

April 06, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

May it please God to edify our members this weekend as believers across the globe celebrate the good news of Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We hope you will join us for our Good Friday service this evening at 6 p.m. during which we will celebrate our Lord's death and resurrection through the Lord's Supper. Christ the Lord is risen! Alelujah!

Who has believed what he has heard from us?And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

Tolle Lege: Bible interpretation 101

March 30, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

What is the Bible and how should we interpret it? What determines the meaning of the text and can it have more than one meaning? Is the Bible all about Jesus and do the commands of God all apply to believers today? How did we get the books of the Bible?

Rise early and be alone with God: wise counsel from an old divine

March 28, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

William Law (1686-1761) was an English Puritan theologian best known for writing works in the category of practical divinity, a category to which we refer today as “Christian living” or “devotional literature.” His most famous work was a classic titled A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life. In it, he argues strenuously that the best way for a Christian to begin his day is to rise very early and spent the first hours in prayer and Scripture meditation.

March 26, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

[Note:  The Following post is from the Desiring God Blog and was written by Matt Reagan. It is an excellent reflection on sports and Christianity, two subjects near and dear to many in the body at PBC. I think you will find it helpful.--Jeff]

Are athletic achievement and fierce competition sheer madness for the Christian?

Tolle Lege: The magnum opus on biblical manhood and womanhood

March 23, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

If you have only one resource in your library on gender issues from a biblical perspective, this work should be it: Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (Crossway), co-edited by CBMW
leaders Wayne Grudem and John Piper.

What is a healthy church member? Part II: A healthy church member is an expositional listener

March 20, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

Back from a week at the beach rested, rejuvenated and ready to return to the front lines of war! (Remember, that’s my operative analogy for the Christian life and ministry in the local church) Today, we return to the second in a 10-part series answering the question “What is a healthy church member?” I am basing this series on the excellent book by Thabiti Anyabwile by the same title.

My family is enjoying God's creation and some much-needed R&R at Orange Beach this week. I will be taking a sabbath rest from blogging as well this week. The PBC blog will return next Monday, March 19, hopefully with a fresh, well-rested perspective.

Tolle Lege: God-centered evangelism expertly modeled in A Pastor's Sketches

March 09, 2012 by Dr. Jeff Robinson

There are more books presently available on the subject of evangelism than at perhaps any time in the history of the church but virtually none that provide a theologically sound approach to dealing with "anxious souls concerning the way of salvation."
