Your Problems and God's Map

September 21, 2009 by Barry Bruce

Sometimes, when life is tough, we think we've strayed from the map of God's will.  In Isaiah 49:11 the people of God, when released from captivity, were to make their way back to the home land. The mountains they faced were obstacles.  However, God gave them the proper perspective concerning the treacherous high country they were facing, And I will make my mountains a road, and my highways shall be raised up.

God refers to the mountains as "my mountains".  We would normally understand the "highways" as belonging to God while thinking differently about the  mountains.  Yet, God wants us to know that there are times when the tough things in life are providentially placed on the map. They are there for us to cross. The problems of life, as well as the highways through them, are under the sovereign control of a loving God.  Therefore, we shouldn't conclude that we have wondered off the map just because we are facing difficult things.  If He has lead us to a mountain barrier it is for His glory and our good.  Let us meditate on the Cross of Christ, reflecting on how God provided a way for His people there, and strengthen our faith.
